AT LAST !!
It has been a while since my last post. The family is doing good. Daughter and her family have moved into their new home. Son is farming and doing good. And hubby and I are adjusting to not having the patter of little feet running threw the house for the first time in many years.
The Pioneer Days was a big success last weekend. The food and flowers show was down a little from last year but alot of beautiful things. The Gate City Gunslingers got rained out on their first show on Friday but performed the last two of the day in the rain. And their shows on Saturday had record turn outs. If you are ever in the area where these guys are preforming you really need to check it out they are great! The craft show was a big success!! I want to thank my friend Robin for all her help with out her I could not have done it !!! It was great to see alot of old friends and to make alot of new ones. We are now working with a couple different stores in hopes that they will have some great response with our items and will continue to carry them. And if we are really lucky alot more stores will join us.
Well its back to work and crafting!!

Baby Shower
Well today I am up early to finish getting things together for the Baby Shower. Any time our new granddaughter Ryley Thorn will be making her debut. Yesterday I made a tub cake for the shower and my granddaughter Cadence loaned me one of her babys to put in the tub. Now every time someone comes to the house she has to show them her baby in the tub. I hope to post pictures later of the shower. Well I guess I need to start packing things to the car and then get dressed to go ... as Miss Cadence would say "We are so excited !!"
Have a great day every one !!!

Mother's Day History: Origin of the Modern Celebration
Mother's Day History: Origin of the Modern Celebration
Mother's Day . . . Few of us are more than dimly aware of the history of our modern celebration of these extraordinary women. You can perhaps recall enough of the history of Mother's Day to know that it originated in the hills of Appalachia and is now celebrated in countries throughout the world. What you may not realize is that the founder of Mother's Day eventually confessed that she regretted ever starting the tradition.
In the United States, Mother's Day originated nearly 150 years ago, when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, organized a "Mother's Work Day" to raise awareness of poor economic and health conditions affecting the children in her community, a cause she believed would be best advocated by mothers.
Fifteen years later, Julia Ward Howe, a pacifist, suffragist, and author of the lyrics to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," proposed an annual event called Mother's Day, but the idea received little support. She organized a day encouraging mothers to rally for peace, since she believed they bore the loss of human life more harshly than anyone else.
When Anna Jarvis died in 1905, her daughter (also named Anna) wished to create a memorial to her mother's work and began a campaign to institute an official holiday to honor mothers. The first Mother's Day observance was a church service honoring Anna's mother and all mothers that Anna arranged. She supplied the decorations for the service -- white carnations, her mother's favorite flowers, chosen because they represent sweetness, purity, and endurance. Today the white flowers signify that one's mother has died and red carnations in time became the symbol of a living mother.
Anna Jarvis, daughter of Anna Reeves Jarvis, who had moved from Grafton, West Virginia, to Philadelphia, in 1890, was the power behind the official establishment of Mother's Day - swore at her mother's gravesite in 1905 to dedicate her life to her mother's project, and establish a Mother's Day to honor mothers, living and dead
- a persistent rumor is that Anna's grief was intensified because she and her mother had quarreled and her mother died before they could reconcile
- in 1907 she passed out 500 white carnations at her mother's church, St. Andrew's Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia -- one for each mother in the congregation
- May 10, 1908: the first church -- St. Andrew's in Grafton, West Virginia -- responded to her request for a Sunday service honoring mothers
- 1908: John Wanamaker, a Philadelphia merchant, joined the campaign for Mother's Day
- also in 1908: the first bill was presented in the U.S. Senate proposing establishment of Mother's Day, by Nebraska Senator Elmer Burkett, at the request of the Young Men's Christian Association. The proposal was killed by sending it back to committee, 33-14.
- 1909: Mother's Day services were held in 46 states plus Canada and Mexico
- Anna Jarvis gave up her job -- sometimes reported as a teaching job, sometimes as a job clerking in an insurance office -- to work full-time writing letters to politicians, clergy members, business leaders, women's clubs and anyone else she thought might have some influence
- Anna Jarvis was able to enlist the World's Sunday School Association in the lobbying campaign, a key success factor in convincing legislators in states and in the U.S. Congress to support the holiday
- 1912: West Virginia became the first state to adopt an official Mother's Day
- 1914: the U.S. Congress passed a Joint Resolution, and President Woodrow Wilson signed it, establishing Mother's Day, emphasizing women's role in the family (not as activists in the public arena, as Howe's Mother's Day had been)
- Texas Senators Cotton Tom Heflin and Morris Shepard introduced the joint resolution adopted in 1914. Both were ardent prohibitionists.
- Anna Jarvis became increasingly concerned over the commercialization of Mother's Day: "I wanted it to be a day of sentiment, not profit." She opposed the selling of flowers (see below) and also the use of greeting cards: "a poor excuse for the letter you are too lazy to write."
- 1923: Anna Jarvis filed suit against New York Governor Al Smith, over a Mother's Day celebration; when a court threw the suit out, she began a public protest and was arrested for disturbing the peace
- 1931: Anna Jarvis criticized Eleanor Roosevelt for her work with a Mother's Day committee that was not Jarvis' committee
- Anna Jarvis never had children of her own. She died in 1948, blind and penniless, and was buried next to her mother in a cemetery in the Philadelphia area.
- the International Mother's Day Shrine: this church in Grafton, West Virginia, was the site of the first unofficial Mother's Day celebration as created by Anna Jarvis, May 10, 1907

Hello all !!
Well today is the Great Greenbrier River Race .... it should be a great day for it. People are saying the water is great for the race. No one should have to drag the canoes today. I wish all the participants a wonderful race.
The doctor told my daughter last week that she will not make it to her due date of June 11. If little Ms. Ryley hasn't made her grand entrance before June 1st they will induce and she will !! Her big sister Cadence is getting very excited but daddy is very nervous as he is working out of town and afraid he will miss out on his baby girls grand entrance. I just laugh at him and he will say but mom ... its so cute to watch them. I just pray that all goes well.
Well its back to work the race will begin here shortly ... Have a great day !!

Alot has been happening !!
Hello all it has been awhile since my last post. I have been crafting a lot !! Our daughter and granddaughter are back with us now for awhile since Justin is out of town working. The due date of our new granddaughter is quickly approaching. My thoughts are she will be here a lot sooner than mommy and daddy think. Today is my grandmothers birthday and no one knows the number of times in a day she is in my thoughts. She was a huge part of my life for many years. Althought she has been in Heaven for many years she is still always in my thoughts. Just the other day I was making a custard pie and was thinking back to all the times as a little girl I would stand on a stool in the kitchen and watch as she would make custard or pies for my grandfather to take to work. Those were the days !!! Happy Birthday Grandma Mary !!!
Here are just a few pics of my latest crafts. I am not working on ornaments for the Relay for Life Event.

Where to Go During an Earthquake
Remember that stuff about hiding under a table or standing in a doorway? Well, forget it! This is a real eye opener. It could save your life someday.
EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP'S ARTICLE ON 'THE TRIANGLE OF
LIFE'
My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of
the American Rescue Team International (ARTI ), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in
an earthquake.
I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams
from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries. I was the United
Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years, and have worked at
every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.
The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City
during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child
was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene --
unnecessary.
Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling
upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a
space or void next to them - NOT under them. This space is what I call the 'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the 'triangles' you
see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.
TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY
1) Most everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' when building collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.
2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a bed, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.
3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If
the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also,
the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.
4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.
5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.
6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is
killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!
7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different 'moment of frequency' (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs
before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by
the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the
building is not damaged.
8) Get near the outer walls of buildings or outside of them if possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior.
The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.
9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in
an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying
next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars
had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.
10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids
are found surrounding stacks of paper.
Spread the word and save someone's life...
The entire world is experiencing natural calamities so be prepared!
'We are but angels with one wing, it takes two to fly'
In 1996 we made a film, which proved my survival methodology to be
correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul, University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical,
scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins
inside. Ten mannequins did 'duck and cover,' and ten mannequins I used in my 'triangle of life' survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse
we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and
document the results. The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions , relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck
and cover.
There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the 'triangle of life.' This film has been seen by millions of
viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in
the USA , Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

Hello friends! Well I am working a new schedule at 911 and it is taking some getting use to. Although it has given me some more time to craft !!! I am working on getting somethings done for my first craft show of 2011. It is only a month away so I need to work fast !! I took my mom back to the heart doctor today for a check up since she had her stent put in. He told her that unless she had a problem to just keep seeing her family doctor and there was no need to come back to him. Thanks God she is doing good !! Things are going good with Crystal's pregnancy she and the baby are doing great and she isn't gaining weight. Cadence loves to lay her head on her mommy's stomach and talk to her baby sister ... well when she did the other night I guess Ryley (the baby) didn't want that so she kicked her. Needless to say Cadence wasn't happy her baby sister was already pushing her around. Here are the pictures of the latest crafts! The can be purchased threw my facebook account:http://www.facebook.com/kountrykreations2008.
